Mae'r sgwrs hon yn trafod hanes cymdeithasol a diwylliannol Cymru yn y ddeunawfed ganrif a dechrau'r bedwaredd ganrif ar bymtheg trwy archwilio cofnodion hynod fanwl megis deponiadau, archwiliadau a chyfaddefiadau Llys y Sesiwn Fawr, llys troseddol uchaf Cymru cyn y 1830au. Mae’r cofnodion hyn yn rhoi cipolwg hynod ddiddorol ar agweddau o’r gorffennol sy’n aml yn anodd cael mynediad atynt, gan gynnwys bywydau dynion a menywod ‘cyffredin’, eu harferion diwylliannol, amgylchiadau economaidd, a’u dylanwad ar eu cymunedau a’u cymdeithas. **Cyflwyniad trwy gyfrwng y Saesneg** | What can an alleged arson tell us about eighteenth-century courtship customs? What can a bludgeoning death involving a chamber pot tell us about poverty? What can the murder of a sex worker tell us about neighbourliness and charity? What can these cases tell us about ‘everyday’ life in Britain during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries? This talk explores the social and cultural history of Wales in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries by examining richly detailed depositions, examinations and confessions the Court of Great Sessions, Wales highest criminal court prior to the 1830s.
