The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health.

 

We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow or Research Assistant in Medical Statistics and Data Science who will contribute to a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funded programme, that aims to change the way cancer treatment services are delivered in the National Health Service. 

 

The role will involve analysis of linked national health datasets, including Hospital Episode Statistics, cancer registration data and datasets capturing cancer treatments including radiotherapy, drug therapies and cancer surgery. Patient choice and centralisation are key themes of the research.

 

The combination of methods to be used are innovative and derived from statistics, economics and health geography and aim to understand the impact of different models of health service design on access, equity and outcomes. This includes mobility mapping, conditional logit regression, multi-level regression, choice simulation analyses, and location allocation modelling.

 

The post will be based at the LSHTM in the Department of Health Services Research and Policy and will be carried out in collaboration with Erasmus University Rotterdam.

 

Applicants for the post of Research Fellow should have a postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree in medical statistics, epidemiology, economics, health geography or related fields, along with experience of analysing large administrative datasets. For the Research Assistant post, applicants should have a MSc degree in medical statistics, epidemiology, economics, health geography or related fields. Experience of analysing large administrative datasets is desirable.

 

The post is available for a fixed term of 3 years from 1st November 2020 until 31st of October 2023. The post is 100% full-time equivalent for a Research Assistant OR 80% full-time equivalent for a Research Fellow.

 

The salary will be on the Academic scale, Grade 5 salary in the range of £34,854 - £36,728 for a Research Assistant or Grade 6  salary in the range of £40,011 - £45,437 (pro rata) for a Research Fellow per annum inclusive of London Weighting. The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff.
