Dear SfNP Members,
This is a reminder that there is one week remaining to apply for the current opportunities in the Section for New Professionals (SfNP) committee. We are recruiting for four voluntary positions: Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and Communications Officer.
Chair
The main responsibilities for the Chair role include planning the agenda of, and chairing SfNP committee meetings, having oversight over SfNP activities, encouraging best practice and cooperation among the committee members, representing the SfNP members’ interests in ARA, responsibility of the SfNP budget and attending various ARA working groups. Treasurer
The main responsibilities for the Treasurer role include managing the SfNP budget in conjunction with other committee members, preparing and submitting the annual budget bid to the ARA Board, and monitoring expenditure and signing off on expenses. You can read more about being Treasurer here:
Secretary
The main responsibilities for the Secretary role include arranging evening teleconferences, writing minutes for meetings, managing the SfNP email account and administrative records and co-ordinating the SfNP annual report. You can read more about being Secretary here:
Communications Officer
The main responsibilities for the Communications Officer role include managing the SfNP social media presence across numerous platforms, updating and maintaining the SfNP pages on the ARA website and supporting the Training Officer in the promotion of SfNP events. These roles require attendance at teleconferences, held in the evening every few months, with regular reports to the committee.
These roles do not require any particular previous experience other than an interest in taking part and time commitment. Prospective applicants must be current members of the ARA.
We welcome expressions of interest from archivists, conservators and records managers. Applicants will preferably be new professionals themselves, who are studying or have less than five years post-qualification experience.

To express your interest for either of these roles, please send a short statement (one page suffices) saying why the role interests you, outlining your interest in SfNP and ARA activities, and how you would manage working time and the team's commitments. If you are applying for more than one role please included a separate application for each. Please also include your ARA membership number. The successful applicant will be notified by Friday 31 July with the view to an immediate start following a short handover period with the current officer.
