Dear all
Further to an enquiry I made on this list a few months ago, I have created a piece of software to automate the process of generating catalogue references. The program also performs a little bit of data validation. While I built it primarily for my own use-case, I tried to make it flexible to share with others. It is free to download and use if anyone wants to try it out.
You can read more about it here: https://blogs.bl.uk/digital-scholarship/2020/07/archivists-stop-wasting-your-ref-ing-time.html

The blog post also contains a link where you can download the software.
This image illustrates the gist of what it does:
If you spot any problems with the software, or if you’d like to see some tweaks to help make it compatible with your own use case, feel free to get in touch.
Best wishes
