The command to leave the list is:

unsubscribe gem

Make sure there is nothing else in the message body of your email.    

There are instructions on how to use commands at the end of every email sent out via the GEM list - see below.  

Other options are to 

• suspend mail - until you want to receive it again
• choose a digest - daily or once a week.   
• make your email client (program) filter out emails from GEM to a folder where you can read them another time
• - but if you're going to do that you might as well just suspend mail and have a look at GEM messages when you want to, at:   http://jiscmail.ac.uk/gem
