We have been thinking of doing something similar at the Natural History Museum and I think a joined up, sector wide approach taking into consideration national differences would be best for both this audience and ourselves given the stresses, pressures and constraints teachers are under. As Audience Research and Advocacy Manager, I would be happy to help craft the survey or help in any other way if that’s useful?

Perhaps, as a starting point, GEM could set up a shared doc and/or a virtual meeting of those interest to help compile a wish list of what we would all like to know which we could use as the basis of the survey?

Then the questions are would GEM be able and willing to:
- host a survey
- distribute a survey to teachers across the U.K.
- analyse and report the findings?

Best wishes, Marie

Hello,

This is a great idea.   Here is Aberdeen we are also considering how to best proceed with schools.

The picture in terms of curriculum and approach to lockdown is a little different for each UK nation – would it be possible for us all  to contribute to  a set of surveys that can be shared for the different regions?   We would be very happy to contribute to this.

Great idea Sarah. I would really support this. GEM, if this is something you might be able to coordinate, I would be happy to help in some way.

Hi Heather and all,

It strikes me that this is the sort of thing we ought to be doing as a whole museum/heritage learning body.  How many museums are separately planning research like this? (Rhetorical question)  I know that we are.  Could we get together as GEM and send out a survey to schools about what they imagine their position to be for the autumn term, what they want from us, how much technology they want to use, when they might start visiting again, the financial position, etc?  It seems rather daft for dozens of us to be doing the same thing all over the country right now, when what we need to know is fairly similar and could be shared.

Thanks,
Sarah

Hello Gemmers,

Like many of you, we at the Woodbridge Tide Mill Museum are currently in the process of creating online content for schools to use. I would like to conduct a focus group (or send a survey) with some teachers to ensure what we do is useful. I just wondered if anyone else had done something similar and if so what sort of questions you asked?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks
Heather (Education Officer WTMM)
