Hi all,

On Friday the Kids in Museums Youth Panel (18-25) launched Objects Declare Emergency. A young people’s focused project. To coincide with the launch the panel will be hosting #MuseumHour tonight between 8-9pm to discuss climate change.

If your museum works with young people and they would like to get involved please email [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>. The panel says:

Objects Declare Emergency is a project exploring stories of the climate crisis and sustainability through selected objects from museum collections.

As trusted institutions that represent history and current events, museums are well-placed to offer diverse perspectives on the causes, effects and responses to environmental change.

This collection has been put together in recognition of the global climate and ecological emergency, particularly for young people, and the urgent responsibility of museums to document, educate and mobilise against the climate crisis.

Each youth panel member has selected objects from museum collections around the world that respond to or ask questions about the environment and sustainability. From 18th century wine bottles to edible water bottles, we invite you to explore the online gallery and be inspired to take action.

You can get involved after 5 June by sharing a museum object of your own, or a response to a museum object, this could be something made, found or created using discarded materials. Share with us on Instagram using the hashtag #ObjectsDeclareEmergency, or to add your own museum object to the collection please contact [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.

Best wishes, Laura
