Dear ANTHROPOLOGY-MATTERS Subscribers,

Hopefully of interest to some of you on this list, French anthropologist Grégoire Schlemmer who experienced lockdown in Nepal was able to document villagers’ views of the corona disease. This led to his making a short film titled “Sansari. The Goddess and the Corona in the Himalayas” (19 min.) (see https://himalayas.hypotheses.org/2717).

The film documents how, at the end of March 2020, news of the virus spread through the village and how some villagers took it on themselves to perform a ritual to propitiate Sansari, goddess of epidemics. This short film is an opportunity to discover other reflections on the current crisis linked to the virus, and it strangely echoes what has been said and done elsewhere in this world.
