One area where place-name enthusiasts may be able to contribute is the identification of lost place-names which survive as surnames (sometimes in an altered form). I was interested in two surnames:- SPAREY and DENNING – which are names I have researched in my own family history and have earlier references to the names and in other geographical areas than those noted. Would this information be of interest to the compilers of the Dictionary, and what would be the best method of forwarding this to them? I assume not via this mailing list ! Thanks.
