Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for articles/readings on interpretative signage etc in  public settings (e.g. a plaque about an historic site concreted into a pavement or wall)?

Could also be about more formal heritage sites but these type public signs are what I am most interested in. 

To some extent I am interested in the practicalities of how signs get placed and their content/semiotics but mainly I am attempting to write something more about how these are objects in their own right and how they can become 'outdated'  and/or traces of previous heritage 'regimes' or trends which are now past. So I guess an archaeology of old heritage signs...

The London signs/boards I am looking at appear to have been abandoned in the streetscape for at least 20 years despite many other radical changes and civic improvements occurring around them since. 

Signs/boards/plaques related readings from anywhere are welcome though.

Also at a basic level anything on the 'infrastructure' of heritage besides signs, the means and materials we use to control access and mediate heritage sites (I have written about fences previously but not specifically on those used for protecting sites). This is kind of int he sense of how such items 'produce' archaeology and heritage in the way Lena Mortensen talks about in her 2009 chapter on 'producing Copan' . (In: J. Hollowell and L.
