*** Apologies for cross-postings *** SAmpSONS - Visualisation and sustainability assessment of new and alternative sanitation systems Dear members of the "urban-drainage" list, Recently, the SAmpSONS simulation and visualisation tool for resource fluxes has been developed within the project „Simulation and Visualisation of Material Flows in New and Alternative Sanitation Systems“ (with co-funding by the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU)). The SAmpSONS simulator is available free of charge from the following webpage: https://www.ifak.eu/en/products/sampsons It allows to simulate (though, in an approximate, not in a detailed way) and visualise both New and Alternative Sanitation Systems (NASS) and conventional wastewater management technologies with regard to their material and resource flows. In addition, the different systems can be evaluated and compared on the basis of various indicators. Nutrient balances (e.g. nitrogen and phosphorus), energy consumption, cost balances (fixed and variable costs as well as total life cycle costs), various environmental indicators (e.g. greenhouse gas emissions and eutrophication potential) as well as social indicators (e.g. acceptance) are taken into account. The SAmpSONS simulator can be applied in many contexts, including, but not limited to, for teaching, training and education and for students' theses. In a second project-phase, also funded by DBU, the SAmpSONS simulator will be extended, also by inclusion of additional wastewater technologies. In case that you would like to see "your" technology included in it and if you can provide (simple) data on it, we would be delighted to hear from you. Also any other suggestions for improvement and extensions of the simulator are welcome. The SAmpSONS program can be used in two languages: German and English. After start of the program, the language can be set using the “Werkzeuge”-“Sprache auswählen” options of the main menu of the program. Looking forward to hearing from you.
