Hi Sandra, I used the draft questions Gill referred to (Manzano & Westhorp), and Manzano’s other paper on the craft of interviewing to design my interview questions for theory development. My paper on the process, and containing these references, is here https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1871519219303634 Best wishes, Kerryn Kerryn O’Rourke La Trobe University From: Realist and Meta-narrative Evidence Synthesis: Evolving Standards <[log in to unmask]> On Behalf Of Gillian Westhorp Sent: Wednesday, 8 April 2020 8:42 AM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: IPT PLEASE NOTE: When you click 'Reply' to any message it will be sent to all RAMESES List members. Hi Sandra The draft questions for realist interviews on the Rameses website can be adapted/used for theory building as well as for theory testing. With Steve’s suggestion about using TOC resources – anything that helps think through sets of issues to consider is of course useful, but beware that TOC doesn’t usually address mechanism and treats context differently than realist work does. Hi Sandra, I did a lot of work on developing my question guide and created one in my PhD which is all about developing theory.. Thought I would share it in the hope it might be helpful. Good Morning One approach for eliciting an initial program theory recommended by Marchal, Kegels, and Van Belle (2018) is to speak to program designers and implementers. We are planning a working group with the designers of our program under study. In the literature I have been unable to find a published example of a question guide that was used to structure such a discussion. So, I am hoping for any insight, examples, and/or references that may be useful in developing the question guide to facilitate discussion at a “working group” made up of program designers to begin to elicit the IPT. Any guidance would be much appreciated. Thank you! Sandra V Sandra VanderKaay , PhD, OT Reg. (Ont.)
