I see that Mark Steiner, Israeli-American professor of mathematical philosophy has sadly died. https://dailynous.com/2020/04/06/mark-steiner-1942-2020/ Is anybody able to write a short appreciation of Mark or his work please for the upcoming special issue of Radical Statistics? Other articles for this special issue are still welcome. Details from me or www.tinyurl.com/rs126cfp e.g. articles on 'Data in Society' and its relevance for the current crisis. JOHN BIBBY PS: I did not know Mark personally. He seems to have been an exceptionally genial person. His work that I know was an intensive drilling into the issues raised by Wigner in his article on the "unreasonable effectiveness" of mathematics. I have often felt that although many of the case studies in this area relate to mathematical physics, they also apply to statistics - from Quetelet's "homme moyen" and Nightingale's "hand of God" to present-day deifications of model-building and curve-fitting.
