Paul made two points.

One is obvious, and adds absolutely nothing to discourse, which is describing, without quantifying the effects of triage. We all know that triage decisions involve patients being assigned to three categories of response - hence the prefix "tri"

The other has to do with a politically biased value choice favoring the presumed long term health of the economy, over the long term health and lives of the population.

Which one of his points is it that you feel still stands?

Thanks for your reply, David. I hate everything Murdoch stands for.

As 'list owner' can I remind members to think more carefully about what you post to the list and not to post articles from suspect sources like the Murdoch press unless it is to warn members about their contents!

Really you base your argument on an article from the SUN and post it to the Radical Statistics e-mail list!!!  The SUN!!! an article written by Trevor Kavanagh, its former political editor.  Have you lost your mind of just your pride?

Does Rupert Murdoch and his chief minions have the best interests of the UK population in their hearts, or is Rupert Murdoch only interested in making money by any means necessary - irrespective of how many people need to die for him to do so?

You may have noticed that we seem to be getting on just fine without all those highly paid 'bullshit jobs' (apologies to David Graeber) - hedge fund managers, corporate city lawyers and other such 'masters of the universe'.

The people keeping us all alive are the lowly paid, supermarket checkout workers and shelf stackers, lorry drivers, nurses, care home workers, refuse collectors  i.e. the people who do the 'essential' jobs but which 'our' economy places little value on

Regards

David Gordon

And that is exactly why the issue of the effectiveness and survival rate on the ventilators is not an abstract issue. We have gone to this extreme point of shutting down the economy to ensure that adequate critical care beds and ventilators are available. In the language of triage, there are those who will survive, those who die regardless, and those who can be aided by medical intervention.

We have traded our economy for the specific notion that those who can be saved by medical intervention are a large number.

Well, are they?
