Good to hear someone (Tom?) discussing the ethics of sending potential carriers to take the virus somewhere else. The programme manager of our hydrogeology MSc has just cancelled all the student work in Malawi because he was concerned for their welfare in the event of an outbreak given the parlous state of the Malawian healthcare system. From my perspective though it was just as likely that the risk was to Malawi’s healthcare system FROM our students rather than the other way around. I have also been concerned about staff and students who may be, or may have friends and family who are, immune-compromised. One of your students may have a condition you are not aware of or caring responsibilities for someone who is at risk. My view is that informed choice is important, and that if a student or staff member decides they would prefer not to travel for their own or a family member’s safety, we should respect that and offer an alternative. Hi all, All sorts of teaching and exams are done remotely in Milano. Any activity involving more than a bunch of people gathering in the same room is postponed/cancelled. This has been the case for the last few weeks. Our governance reacted very fast to the emergency and instructed students and staff about the new procedures. Given overseas travel will be cancelled first we are considering UK alternatives, but there is also a chance that will not be possible either. We probably have enough virtual outcrops to prepare classroom versions of all our exercises.
