Sorry to trouble you all.

I just wonder if anyone is going to attend this event? I will not, but that the government not releasing files on Black political activists/organisations should have been included.

Please read my email exchange below.

Dear Marika,

We also have Rebecca Adams who work at London Metropolitan Archives and manages the Mollie Hunte archive. I attach our Press Release.

I am sure you understand that we are a small charity, so our budget is limited. We feel that our panel will have lot's of interesting things to discuss that cover our areas of discussion.

If this seems like an event you are interested in, please do get a ticket www.grandjunction.org.uk/events ; but of course I understand that it may not be of interest to you.

Best Wishes,

Ella

Ella,

Do your invited speakers have any familiarity with the National Archives?

Your text below: How have archives been weaponised throughout history? Are they necessary spaces for Black artists to [re]claim? Black artists, curators and archivists discuss.

I see  nothing about historians. Nor do you have a historian of ‘Black’ Britain among your speakers. I am not an artist, so I don’t know what material artists would look for in an archive. Certainly artists’ materials should be archived. As should those of local activists. But it is only Arike who knows about the need to preserve these; and I don’t know if she has any idea re what SHOULD be available in National Archives.

Hi Marika,

I hope you are well.

I am unsure of why you are gobsmacked. All of these topics will be invited to be discussed at the panel- not in the promo. Our aim is to have lots of engaged and interesting people at the event and let them/ you lead to conversations.

I think it would be somewhat unimaginable for these ideas not to come into the discussion- don't you!?

Best Wishes,

Ella

Good morning!

I have just received this. And am somewhat ‘gobsmacked’.  Absolutely no mention of how the government withholds files! Thus the history of Black peoples/struggles/colonies/struggles for independence are grossly manipulated – even wiped out of history!

Hi Yvonne,

I hope you are well. We met at Grand Junction last year at the Power Up event.

I would like to invite you to a special panel discussion I am organising, that I thought may be of interest, Archive: Safe Space or Battleground? (I attach our Press Release)

We have invited some of the most relevant Black artists, curators and archivists to discuss archives as a political space; how they have been used, are being used and may be used in the future. We hope to inspire a radical discussion about art, race, memory and politics. We hope you can attend.

It would be wonderful if you could also help us to spread the word amongst your networks. I have attached a social media friendly image and below is some text. We would appreciate any Tweeting/ Instagramming / Facebook/ email sharing!
