Dear colleagues,

The Archive Service Accreditation Committee and partners are delighted to announce the following new awards made at the most recent Accreditation Panel on 4 March 2020. Successful applications were received from:

·         London South Bank University Archives

·         Magdalen College School Archive

·         Oldham Local Studies and Archives

·         The Archives Centre, Merseyside Maritime Museum

·         University of Brighton Design Archive

We would like particularly to congratulate the following archive services on completing a full cycle of Accreditation returns and retaining their status as Accredited Archive Services in a full assessment after 6 years. These are the first services to do this, pioneering from the first days of Accreditation to the present, and we thank them very much for continued commitment to the programme’s delivery over time:

·         Cumbria Archive Service

·         Exeter Cathedral Library and Archives

·         Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service

The Panel also saw many services retaining their awards on regular review, and the following services moving from a provisional status to the full award:

·         The Royal Society

·         University of Leicester Archives and Special Collections

The full list of Accredited Archive Services can be seen at https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/archives-sector/archive-service-accreditation/accredited-archive-services/

Of course, a huge amount has changed in the few weeks since the panel meeting, in ways we could not then entirely anticipate. But we want to congratulate these services on their successful applications, representing sustained development work over time, and to take this moment to celebrate how archives have used Accreditation to improve and develop during the programme’s first six years.

The programme partners and committee’s agreed position on where the programme is at present is available at https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/archives-sector/our-archives-sector-role/coronavirus-update/. If you have any queries about your own archive service’s Accreditation status, or potential future applications, please do get in touch through [log in to unmask] for services in England, or with the relevant home nations assessor body.

Wishing you all the best at this complicated time,

Melinda
