Hi,

I’m the same as Gary (private sector) so everything in the near future has come to a complete stop. Got a video/3d scanning job in Canada later in the year but even the pre-production cash for that is held up due to the theatre being shutdown. Definitely a time to catch upon editing and personal projects. Oh, and if anyone is thinking about going for the 3 months of mortgage holiday, I’ve just done it. Super easy and a good move in these times (just be prepared to do some photo editing whilst you are listening to Musak down the phone line).

Hi

I work in the private sector, predominantly in publishing for reference books, I am really feeling the pinch. Was lined up for 2  new titles, one involved photographing on location predominantly in museums. As the publisher has closed their London office down and everyone now working at home the projects have been put on hold. So, now going to have to burn through my savings, going to be a very rough time for us freelancers. I know other photographers who are in the same boat

Hope everybody is well.

The National Library of Wales closed to the public earlier in the week, and to staff at 5pm last night. It's still possible to go in to pick things up etc., but we're encouraged to stay away.

I have moved what I can into the cloud, and the rest onto external drives. The focus for us is to make sure online resources stay up, and ensure our social media presence remains current and regular. I'm going to focus on reviewing/developing documentation and creating new video content - mostly by repurposing existing stuff, but perhaps also making new content from digitised resources, creating video guides to online services etc.

The rest of the team will be doing some data processing work and some QA/ image processing tasks. We only a have a few weeks work to start with so, we're going to work slowly on it.

If this goes on for months, I'm hoping to set up more robust remote access so we can process backlogs and continue making new material available online.

It's going to be interesting to see how all of this impacts our strategies going forward. I can see even more focus on providing services online.

Stay safe everybody. It would be good if we could keep in contact and support each other.

Hi,

I think from my perspective it would be interesting to see who is still able to go to work and who isn’t?

How are the different institutions  handling this?

I am still at work as it is just me in a studio with enough objects to keep me going for a good while. Studio is in a separate building out on an airfield.

What are other people doing?

Cheers

Hello all,

I was watching Tony Grant’s (BL) recent 3D project on iPlayer (https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000gj57/click-half-life starts around 16:16<https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000gj57/click-half-life%20starts%20around%2016:16>) and wanted to share it but also thought about finding a suitable platform we can all use for sharing experiences, ideas for new projects, concerns etc. during this strange and challenging time.

I’m aware many will soon (or maybe are already) not be able to travel for work or even get into work so there will be shoots and projects being put on hold for an unknown period of time.

For those who are still able to stay connected from home (and cannot physically shoot anything) this can be a good time to catch up on learning, remote training, research on new tech and so on.

If admins are OK with that, perhaps we can use this email based platform as a start. I am also looking at setting up a community-type Linked-In or a Facebook group (closed or semi-closed) as it might be more appropriate and easy to use for sharing images, videos etc. Please comment if you think this is a good idea and which platform you are more likely to use (on mobile/ work laptop/ home computer etc.)

To share some of the stuff we at Phase One have already put in place: As we are a fairly international company, with office locations in several countries as well and staff in the field, and with many now “stuck” at home, we now have all teams, including R&D, set up so that we can work remotely. In fact there are engineers working from home while having full access and control over hardware that sits on their office desks. In addition we have various open channels for continuous communication between team members.

I now have a make-shift repro studio at home with everything I need for production of little demo and tutorial videos as we are looking to create more online content in the coming weeks and months. This is a great opportunity to practice and re-lube some long-forgotten video editing skills ☺

Wishing everybody and their families a safe “journey” and hoping we’ll all come out of this stronger, kinder and smarter!

BR

Yair
