Hi Aoife,

What about if you use Cotton Ribbon instead? If you are going to use stainless steel or brass pins, get a guaranty from the company that will not damage the records, I hope this idea helps you and good luck.

Subject: Alternatives to Straight Pins

Dear all,

We are currently looking at alternatives to straights pins for holding large bundles of documents together. At the moment the pins are metal and have a habit of catching on other files which causes both damage to the records and can be a safety issue to staff filing them. In addition, the documents are long term and the usual consequences of metal are already apparent on records that are only a few years old.

The obvious alternative is to look at stainless steel or brass pins instead of metal. However, I wonder has anyone other ideas or experience of fasteners for large bundles of documents that is gentler on the paper and appropriate for easy filing?

Many thanks

Aoife
