Graduate Course in Realist Research Methodology offered by the University of Saskatchewan (May 06 – June 23, 2020) The University of Saskatchewan is pleased to announce that it will offer an upper graduate-level course, “Introduction to Realism: Philosophy, Methodology, and Practice,” this spring in Saskatoon, Canada. This course will be held from May 06 – June 23, 2020 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm (central standard time). This course is a joint collaboration between faculty from the Department of Psychology, Community Health and Epidemiology at the University of Saskatchewan, and the Saskatchewan Centre for Patient-Oriented Research (SCPOR). Primary instructors for this course will be Dr. Valery Chirkov, Professor of Psychology (Part 1) and Dr. Gary Groot, Associate Professor, Community Health and Epidemiology (Part 2). Students will be introduced to the realist philosophical paradigm and to the main consequences of realist thinking for conducting research in social and the associated sciences. The course will focus on introducing students to applications of the realist philosophical paradigm in realist synthesis and evaluation practice. This course will be offered through a multi-access format. On-campus learners at the University of Saskatchewan will be together in a technology-enabled classroom and will have the Instructor present in the classroom with them. Remote learners will participate by connecting via Internet webcam. Content can be exchanged between participants using desktop sharing. Please note that this course is for-credit with the University of Saskatchewan, and is intended for upper-year graduate students. Departmental permission from Community Health and Epidemiology at the University of Saskatchewan is required for registration. Tuition cost is dependent upon your learner status. For students actively enrolled as a graduate student in the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan, this course will be included in your tuition fees.
