The Pragmatic Clinical Trials Unit https://www.qmul.ac.uk/pctu/ and Centre for Clinical Trials and Methodology, Institute of Population Health Sciences, QMUL invite expressions of interest from researchers and students considering application for NIHR Pre-doctoral Fellowships in the areas of clinical trial methodology or Health Economics and Policy. 
 
The NIHR Pre-doctoral Fellowships provide funding for up to two years' training in health and social care research methods, including salary and tuition fees. During this period the successful candidates could undertake an MSc degree or follow a number of internal and external courses in the selected field, and will develop further skills while working on their research projects.  Mentoring and supervision will be provided throughout the Fellowship period and will include support towards developing ideas and plans for further (e.g. PhD) study and research. Promising candidates will be invited to work with a suitable supervisor at QMUL to develop an application for the Fellowship, which would then be considered in open competition by NIHR. 
 
We are world-leaders in the science and execution of pragmatic clinical trials, and our staff have particular interests and expertise in the following areas:
 
- Cluster randomised trials 
- Innovative trial design 
- Trials within cohorts (TwiCs)
- Pilot and feasibility studies
- Studies within trials (SWATS)
- Disease trajectories and decision-analytic modelling
- Heterogeneity in cost-effectiveness
- Health outcomes in economic evaluation
- Health policy analysis
 
Candidates can also suggest their own research ideas to be considered by prospective supervisors.
