If you're still on the hunt for imitation candles, I'm currently in IKEA and the have a range of pillar style ones (not remote though sadly).

Figured I'd share the info, given I 'm fighting the Sunday crowds....

In regards to the thicker candles, we set one of the fake tea lights into an old thick candle. It was only for a temporary Exhibition but worked really well.

Are we talking thin ones or thickish pillar candles?

Thick ones we struck lucky one year and Aldi were selling them for Christmas, about a fiver each.  Can't remember the make though! Perfect for our artificial arches though.

But might be worth a trawl in some of the Christmas stock sales, or, there is, a think a online Christmas shop which might have them.

The ones we use have to be switched on and off manually.  If access is an issue, you might want to consider remote controlled ones!

I am trying to source some imitation candle lights to replace long defunct lights (see attached Image) in our salt-mine display.  Ideally they would be mains connected but we may also need one running off batteries because of access issues.

Any recommendations welcome!
