CILIP Blockchain Briefing - 27 February, London

What is blockchain, and what does it have to do with you and your work?

If your job uses data or transactions in any way, it is likely that it will be disrupted by blockchain technology at some point in the future, if it isn't already.
Originally developed as technology to power bitcoin, blockchain is capable of much much more - recording and tracking anything of value from medical records to the food supply chain, and revolutionising the way we interact with each other.
This half-day event will explain the nuts and bolts of blockchain technology, consider the ways it is being used currently, how it might be used in the future, and ways in which it may affect your work and the sector.
By attending this event you will be:

  * Informed of the basics of blockchain technology - what it is and how it works
  * Updated on how blockchain is being used now across a number of sectors, including health, finance and government, reducing bureaucracy and increasing efficiency.
  * Shown how blockchain technology is having an impact on research data management, peer review processes - and what library and information professionals need to do to prepare
  * Briefed about the ARCHANGEL project, run by The National Archives
  * Entertained by a lively speaker panel, who will be debating key issues and responding to your questions and comments
