Are you marking Holocaust Memorial Day 2020?

A message from the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust – the charity that promotes and supports Holocaust Memorial Day in the UK.

Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) takes place on 27 January each year and commemorates the victims of the Holocaust, Nazi Persecution and the genocides that followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

Marking HMD offers museums and galleries an opportunity to spark interest and to inspire creativity through collections, to challenge discrimination and promote a positive activity for the whole community.

Last year, museums and galleries organised more than 40 activities by holding temporary exhibitions, putting up posters, hosting events for schools and much more.

Explore our Get Involved Guide for Museums and Galleries for ideas, inspiration and advice.
HMD 2020 is a significant anniversary year. It will mark 75 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi camp, as well as 25 years since the genocide in Bosnia. The theme for 2020, Stand Together, encourages us all to challenge discrimination and to speak out against oppression anywhere in society.

We want to see more museums and galleries getting involved than ever this year and contributing to the national picture of HMD. HMDT provides support and resources to everyone across the UK who wants to commemorate HMD. Please do get in touch to discuss how your museum or gallery will get involved, or if you have any questions.

If you do organise an activity to mark HMD, please let us know by adding it to our online map: hmd.org.uk/letusknow
