Hi
We have two large (cA1) files of mid 20th century Ordnance Survey maps, not housed with our other collections, but needing to be moved from their current site. The files are made of fabric-backed card. We have no area to quarantine them, or to house them in suitably dry conditions. The files have become mouldy and the mould has spread to some of the maps inside. In one file the maps are bound to the file itself.
We have a freezer the right size to take both files - I will need to check its temperature specs of course - but I am not sure what is the best way or the best materials to prepare the items for freezing. Do you have any advice? Is this something I should be seeking advice from a conservator on?
Many thanks
