Hi Ellen
This site will have some helpful advice - it's a ACE-funded advice and standards website originally for the museum community.

Subject: Open source software
Dear all
I work with a small charity which is about to get a collection of silhouettes, and I will catalogue them. In the main, these are framed and unframed images. Silhouettes which are framed are a single item, with the frame generally being
integral to the silhouette.
In addition, there is are other items: a chamber pot, beer bottle, jug, to name but some - which are also to be catalogued. The collection also includes books, sales catalogues, research. You name it, we have it.
I am wondering if there is any open source software out there available to catalogue such a diverse collection?
regards,
Ellen Scaife
