The MRC Biostatistics Unit is offering an exciting biostatistics position currently available at the University of Cambridge. This appointment will be made at either Senior Research Associate or Research Associate, depending on achievements and experience. This is an opportunity for a statistician with an interest in the development and application of clinical trials methodology to join Dr Sofia Villar's research group. The post-holder will have the opportunity to significantly contribute to Sofia Villar's methodological research in relation to designing and implementing clinical trials. Depending on the interests and skills of the post-holder, the role could focus on: i) addressing key methodological issues in adaptive designs (especially those related to optimal or "bandit" designs); ii) addressing practical questions of applied relevance for novel designs; and/or iii) leading complex applied analyses.

Part of the funding for the post comes from research projects from the Papworth Trials Collaboration Unit (at Royal Papworth Hospital). The post-holder will be working on some very interesting applied projects as part of the team of statisticians from the Papworth Trials Unit Collaboration. Additionally, there will be lots of opportunities to interact and collaborate with researchers both in the MRC Biostatistics Unit and Papworth to develop new studies that apply novel methodology in practice.

Candidates for Research Associate position will have a PhD in statistics or equivalent experience: computing experience, statistical packages (e.g. R) and experience in design of clinical trials and its implementation and analysis. You must have good communication skills and be able to contribute substantially to writing scientific papers. Knowledge of optimisation and/or machine learning techniques is desirable but not essential.

The post is available for three years in the first instance. We encourage both full time and part time applications.

Closing date: 12th March 2020

Interview date expected to be: 2nd or 3rd April 2020
