Dear all,

The Centre for Experimental Medicine & Rheumatology (EMR) is looking to appoint a Bioinformatician. EMR is focused on the development of innovative therapeutic and diagnostic approaches to inflammatory arthritis, particularly rheumatoid arthritis, and autoimmune diseases including Sjogren’s syndrome and SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus). The emphasis is on translational research by combining strengths and expertise of basic and clinician scientists working together. We are seeking to appoint a Bioinformatician to join an integrated, multidisciplinary research team of Scientists and Clinicians, led by Professor Costantino Pitzalis, focused on Inflammation and Rheumatology research at the William Harvey Research Institute (WHRI) and partner institutions on our picturesque Charterhouse Square campus. The appointed candidate in the role of Bioinformatician will work closely with the WHRI Centre for Translational Bioinformatics team led by Professor Michael Barnes.

The successful candidate will perform bioinformatic analysis of multi-omic data including bulk and single cell RNA-seq, NGS, genetic, epigenetic, proteomic, serological and CyTOF flow cytometric data from clinical trials within the EMR to discover biomarkers for patient stratification. The position would particularly suit an ambitious early career researcher with an interest in the application of complex bioinformatic analysis and machine learning to genomic medicine in the context of personalized medicine clinical trials. We have recently conducted two major biomarker-driven randomised clinical trials in rheumatoid arthritis, R4RA<http://www.r4ra-nihr.whri.qmul.ac.uk> and STRAP<http://www.matura-mrc.whri.qmul.ac.uk>, which was part of the MRC funded stratified medicine consortium MATURA. The focus of the work will be analysing multi-omic data from these novel trials.

Further information is available on Naturejobs, and details of how to apply are on the QMUL website:

Myles Lewis
