Hi Mary,

You can access my PhD online here: https://curve.coventry.ac.uk/open/items/8ee6cd03-3f4f-aef0-7889-1b1783d4efd5/1/
I would recommend looking at the photos in that before embarking on your own study. Unfortunately I never published an ID guide, but you'll see the references that I found useful. Bailon 1999 and Boehme 1977 are two key ones. I hope you'll find some of my drawings and SEMs useful too.

There are collections of all British species at Heritage England's Fort Cumberland base, and at Bournemouth Uni that I know about, as I contributed many specimens to both, to enable them to have full sets. My own collection isn't publicly accessible though.

Hope that helps as a start.

Best regards
Chris

Concepts in geometric morphometrics will be taught using a series of original data sets and working in R for solving a series of tasks. The course will start with an introduction to R and will rapidly go into shape analysis with measurements, landmark data and outlines. The participants are welcome to bring their own data and problems so that we may find R solutions.

Dear colleagues,

A friend of mine has asked for *pdf copies of these two articles:

Grant, A. (1982) - The use of tooth wear as a guide to the age of domestic ungulates.

Bull, G. and Payne, S. (1982) - Tooth eruption and epiphysial fusion in pigs and wild boar.

I shall be most grateful for help!

With thanks,

Subject: Request for amphibian and reptile resources or accessible reference collections for British species

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone on this lovely list would be able to help me. I am trying to gain a better understanding and identification of British amphibia and reptiles beside the common frog. I am struggling to find accessible archaeological resources (not being part of a university for a while now) on toads and other species which would help with identification and interpretation. I would also like to compare the skeletons of a common frog and common toad and take photographs if possible, if anyone might know of a place which has accessible specimens? Thank you so much in advance, Mary.

Hi Mary, we've published a few references under 'Identification guides: amphibian and reptile' in the Supplement 1 (Key Reference Resources) to our Animal Bones Guidelines, which you can access here https://historicengland.org.uk/images-books/publications/animal-bones-and-archaeology/. We are just updating the resource which will include some additional references (including the one Corentin has suggested), see below. You're welcome to visit our reference collection, see HE webpage below and the NZRR (https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/archives/view/nzrr_he_2017/metadata.cfm). We have an Open Collections Day every 2nd Wednesday of the month. Pease write to me off-list if you'd like to visit.
