Hello,

One of our researchers here at the University of Essex is looking to access searchable, digitised versions of European (specifically French and Portuguese) newspapers from the 1940s, 50s, 60s and 70s; however, he is currently drawing a bit of a blank with this as our subscription databases (Nexis, Gale Primary Sources, Proquest Historical Newspapers, etc.) don’t cover the time period or countries in question. I’m just wondering if anyone on this list can recommend any resources – either open-access or subscription-based – that might be worth looking at? He is already aware of Europeana Newspapers and also Gallica, which I believe includes some French titles published in the early 1940s.

Many thanks in advance for any help anyone is able to provide!

Best wishes,

Esther
