Dear all,

A reminder that my new workshop, “Building your personal pedagogy” (10th January in central Liverpool, full day) is open for bookings and tickets are still available! This new workshop gives us time and structure to think about our beliefs about what our teaching is for, our assumptions about how students learn, and whether or not our teaching practices fit in with those beliefs and assumptions. Details below (and on the booking page: https://personalped.eventbrite.co.uk), and the exact approach will depend on the final numbers – I’m currently intending to use approaches such as Lego Serious Play to allow attendees to explore their underlying beliefs and assumptions about teaching J

There are also the last few tickets available for the  “Making Games and Using Play for Libraries” workshop, so book earlier rather than later if you want to come! (16th December in central London, running 1pm to 5pm). More details below.

Building your personal pedagogy:

This new workshop gives us time and structure to think about our beliefs about what our teaching is for, our assumptions about how students learn, and whether or not our teaching practices fit in with those beliefs and assumptions.

This is aimed at people who may have been teaching or training for several years, but who want to re-invigorate their teaching by articulating their personal pedagogy. New professionals may benefit, but some teaching or training experience is necessary to get the best from this workshop.

We will discuss our personal values as they relate to teaching or training, talk about learning theories, and differing teaching interventions. The workshop will be highly participatory and timings / exact content may change to suit the attendees.

By the end of the workshop participants will have reflected upon, and expressed, their personal pedagogies and planned how they can develop their teaching skills further in line with this.

Tickets are £65 for an early bird ticket (including lunch / refreshments), going up to £75 in a month’s time.

Tickets sales are open now!

Making games and using play:

This will be an afternoon of discussing play and making (non-digital) games for information literacy instruction! After running a version of this event in Leeds, 100% of attendees (who filled in the feedback form!) rated it good or excellent. Feedback previous events is on my blog for Leeds and York. I've run this multiple times in many different locations since about 2012 and this has been fine-tuned over the years - you can find lots of resources that come out of these workshops on the blog too :)

This is primarily aimed at people wanting to use playful teaching approaches with adults. We will discuss some of the benefits of using a playful approach, as well as some of the barriers to doing so with adults.

The bulk of the afternoon will then consist of group work - creating and prototyping games for use within your libraries.

Tickets are £60, or £70 including a copy of “The librarians' book on teaching through games and play" (£19.95 RRP).

Tickets sales are open now, but not many tickets left!
