ICMR 2020 - General Call for Submissions
Dublin, Ireland, 8-11 June 2020

http://icmr2020.org

The Annual ACM International Conference on Multimedia Retrieval (ICMR) is the premier conference to display scientific achievements in the field of multimedia retrieval. ICMR 2020 provides a great opportunity for exchanging leading-edge multimedia retrieval ideas among researchers, practitioners and users of multimedia retrieval systems. ACM ICMR 2020 will take place in Dublin, Ireland on June 8-11, 2020.

ACM ICMR 2020 is calling for papers (full papers, short papers, demonstrations, and more) presenting significant and innovative research in multimedia retrieval and related fields. Papers should extend the state of the art by addressing new problems or proposing insightful solutions. Please make submissions using the ICMR 2020 submission site: https://www.conftool.com/icmr2020/

Topics of Interest
=====================
The scope of the conference includes core topics in multimedia retrieval and recommendation, as well as the broader set of topics that must be addressed to ensure that multimedia retrieval technologies are of practical use in real-world use cases. Topics of interest include:
- Content and context based indexing
- Search and retrieval of multimedia data
- Multimodal content analysis and retrieval
- Deep learning for multimedia retrieval
- Advanced descriptors and similarity metrics for multimedia data
- Complex multimedia event detection
- Learning and relevance feedback in multimedia retrieval
- Query models, paradigms, and languages for multimedia retrieval
- Hashing and indexing algorithms for large-scale retrieval
- Cross-media retrieval
- Visual search and retrieval
- Human perception based multimedia retrieval
- Studies of information-seeking behavior among image/video users
- Affective/emotional interaction or interfaces for image/video retrieval
- HCI issues in multimedia retrieval
- Crowdsourcing in multimedia retrieval
- Community-based multimedia content management
- Internet of multimedia things
- Image/video summarization and visualization
- Mobile visual search
- Multimedia analysis for societal good
- Evaluation of multimedia retrieval systems
- Applications of multimedia retrieval (Healthcare, Sustainability, Security, Personal Data/Lifelogs, Fintech, Autonomous vehicles/systems, etc.)

Full Paper Track
=====================
The Full Paper Track provides the opportunity for researchers to present their state of the art research in Multimedia Retrieval, which makes, or has the potential to make, a significant contribution to the field. Full paper submissions should be no longer than 8 pages in length, with one additional page for references if needed.

Short Paper Track
=====================
The Short Paper Track calls for original contributions presenting novel, thought-provoking ideas and addressing innovative application areas within the field of Multimedia Retrieval. The inclusion of promising (preliminary) results is encouraged but not required. Papers that stimulate and promote discussion are particularly encouraged. Short paper submissions should be 4 pages in length at a maximum, with one additional page for references if needed.

Demonstration Track
=====================
The Demonstration Track provides the opportunity for researchers to present their research prototypes and operational systems which they wish to share with the community, obtain feedback from experts, and exchanges knowledge on implementing and developing such systems. Submissions should clearly define their purpose, scope, and audience. All submissions should provide a URL to a live online version of their demo or, alternatively, provide a URL to a video showcasing the main features of their demo. Demo submissions should be 4 pages in length, with one additional page for references if needed.

Brave New Ideas Track
=====================
The Brave New Ideas Track is calling for innovative papers that suggest new opportunities and challenges for multimedia retrieval. A BNI paper is expected to stimulate activity towards addressing new, long term challenges of interest to the multimedia retrieval community. The papers should address topics with a clear potential for high societal impact; authors should be able to argue that their proposal is important to solving problems, to supporting new perspectives, or to providing services that directly affect people’s lives. Note that is not necessary that papers in this track have large-scale experimental results or comparisons to the state of the art, since it is expected that large, publicly available datasets may not be available, and there may be no existing approaches to which the proposed approach in the paper can be compared. BNI papers should be no longer than 8 pages in length, with one additional page for references if needed.

Doctoral Symposium Track
=====================
ICMR 2020 doctoral symposium plans to bring together Ph.D. students working on topics aligned with the topics of this year’s conference. Prospective student attendees should already have a clear direction for research, and possibly have published some results. Each doctoral symposium paper should not be longer than 4 pages, with one additional page for references if needed. ICMR 2020 will use a single-blind review process for doctoral symposium paper selection. The paper should primarily be written by the doctoral student, but the advisor(s) may be included as authors. For full submission details, please see the ICMR 2020 website.

Special Sessions
=====================
Associated with ACM ICMR 2020 are four special sessions representing state of the art topics and directions in the field of multimedia retrieval. These special sessions can be chosen when submitting your paper on the submission system (https://www.conftool.com/icmr2020/). The four special sessions are:
- Human-Centric Cross-modal Retrieval
- Knowledge-Driven Analysis and Retrieval on Multimedia
- Multimedia Information Retrieval for Urban Data
- Detection of Daily Living Activities

Papers submitted to special sessions should be no more than 8 pages in length, with one additional page for references if needed.

Workshops
=====================
Five workshops will be held the day before ICMR, to provide a platform for presenting novel ideas and research results in more interactive and focused venues:
- The Third Annual Workshop on the Lifelog Search Challenge (LSC 2020)
- Joint Workshop on Multimedia Artworks Analysis and Attractiveness Computing in Multimedia (MMArt-ACM 2020)
- Multimedia for Cooking and Eating Activities (CEA2020)
- Analysis of Medical and Sports Sensor Data Using Deep Learning
- Intelligent Cross-Data Analysis and Retrieval

Each workshop will have their own submission system and we refer authors to the ICMR2020 website (http://icmr2020.org) for more details of these workshops. Workshop papers should be no longer than 6 pages in length, with one additional page for references if needed.

Submission Guidelines
=====================
All submissions must be written in English and be formatted according to the ACM proceedings style. All papers should be submitted electronically through the conference submission system. Full paper, short paper, special session paper and Brave New Ideas paper submissions will be refereed through double-blind peer review. Demonstration papers and Doctoral Symposium papers will undergo single-blind review. Accepted submissions will be published in the conference proceedings published by ACM. Submissions to the workshops that are accepted will be published in the accompanying ACM workshop proceedings. The proceedings will be distributed to all delegates at the conference. Accepted submissions must be presented at the conference -- and at least one author will be required to register at the normal registration rate.

Student Support
=====================
Student support for attendance at ACM ICMR 2020 will be provided by, and managed by SIG MM. We will provide further details on the ICMR 2020 website as soon as we can.
