1-year Postdoc position (60%) on geography of science fiction from China

 

at the Department of Geosciences, Geography Unit, University of Fribourg, Switzerland

This postdoctoral position is part of a research grant titled “Science, fiction and power: rethinking planetarity through post-Earth science fiction from China”. In collaboration with the PI, the postdoctoral researcher will analyse selected science fiction literature for their ideas of Earth as geological and socio-ecological entity at the planetary scale. Funding for this position is provided by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) under the framework of a SPARK grant.

Job description
Scientific analysis of selected science fiction literature from China
Co-organisation of panel at international conference
Publication of one scientific article in international peer-reviewed journal
Preparation of research project on science fiction from China for grant application
Support of PI in grant administration
Qualifications
Candidates with the following credentials are invited to apply:
A completed PhD in literary geography, political geography, Chinese studies, science fiction studies or other relevant fields
Evidence of publication capacity
Strong background in social theory and literary analysis
Interest and ability to work in a collaborative and interdisciplinary manner
Native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin Chinese
Very good language skills in English, knowledge of German or French is an asset
Conditions of employment

The appointment will be for 12 months. Gross salary is in the range of 50K CHF per year (60%) and follows the salary scale of the canton of Fribourg.
