Applications are now open for an exciting PhD studentship in Clinical Trials Methodology at The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), London Development and Implementation of Efficient Adaptive Designs in Early Phase Oncology Trials for Novel Agents Supervisors: Profs Christina Yap (ICR), Johann de Bono (ICR), Judith Bliss (ICR) & Adrian Mander (Cardiff University) Closing date: Sunday 17 November 2019 11.55pm UK time This is an exciting opportunity to undertake a fully funded PhD in Clinical Trials Methodology in Cancer with a generous stipend, currently £21,000 per annum, as well as having fees and project costs paid for the four-year duration. The aim of this PhD is to develop efficient adaptive designs for dose-finding trials of novel cancer therapies. Working closely with clinicians, scientists and the clinical trials team at the ICR, this project provides an unique and exciting opportunity to equip the PhD student not only with the skills to develop innovative and efficient statistical methodologies, but also to tailor them to real-world trials and apply them in practice. Eligibility: The scheme is open to nationals from all countries, with full fees provided and a generous stipend. The project would suit a candidate with strong statistical and computational skills. The candidate would be highly numerate with a keen interest in developing statistical methodology and implementing them in cancer clinical trials. Candidate must already have been awarded a first-class or second upper class honours degree in Mathematics or Statistics. A Master’s degree or equivalent in medical statistics or a related quantitative discipline, or experience of working in clinical trials would be desirable. This ICR PhD studentship will be based at the ICR’s Clinical Trials and Statistics Unit (ICR-CTSU) at the Sutton site and will work within a large group of statisticians. The successful candidate will also join a wider national cohort of PhD students as part of the MRC-NIHR Trials Methodology Research Partnership. The studentship will be awarded on the basis of merit to commence in Autumn 2020.
