El Enigma Agustina
London, 19th October 2019. The Society of Spanish Researchers in the United Kingdom (SRUK/CERU) is pleased to host the international premiere of “El Enigma Agustina”, a film based on an audio-visual project directed by Manuel González García and Emilio J. García Gómez Caro at the Astrophysics Institute of Andalucia (IAA-CSIC), sponsored by the Science and Technology Spanish Foundation (FECYT).
The film is a false documentary that explores the life of a PhD student who finds a trunk full of old objects and documents in a hidden room in “El Pardo Palace”, Madrid. Among them, she finds a PhD thesis written by Agustina Ruiz Dupont, some letters signed by Marie Curie and Albert Einstein in which Agustina’s name is mentioned, and several pictures of this mysterious woman no one had ever heard about before. In her desire to learn more about Agustina, she finds herself going back to the first third of the twentieth century in Europe, the Golden Age of Physics in Europe.
After the film screening, there will be a roundtable with the film directors Emilio J. García Gómez Caro and Manuel González García. They are both trained physicists with an extensive experience in science communication
