Dear all,

We'd love to invite you to the inaugural lecture of Becky Parker on 31st October 2019. The event is free and open to all.

18:30 - 20:30
31st October 2019
Queen Mary University of London, Mile End

The details are below, and please register via the Eventbrite link here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/its-time-to-change-science-education-tickets-74081916005

It's time to change science education:
With a serious shortage of scientists going in to teaching and accusations that the science curriculum is overloaded and consequently dry, Becky Parker suggests bold changes to make science teaching more attractive and the experience of studying science more aligned with science as a verb, not a noun.

About Becky Parker:
After a physics degree and research at the University of Chicago, Becky taught in a variety of schools and found when she offered genuine research opportunities to her students they thrived in the subject, girls and boys alike. Setting up the Institute for Research in Schools (IRIS) in 2015 was to scale this approach across the county and there is huge enthusiasm for authentic science from both school students and teachers. Becky returned to teaching in September 2019 as Head of Physics at Benenden School in Kent.
Becky was awarded an MBE in 2008 and in the summer of 2016 she was awarded the Kavli Education Medal from the Royal Society.

Best wishes,
Sarah
