Hi Agnese,

If you have a limited budget I would recommend using software like Videoscribe or Doodly to create the videos. This is software where you drag and drop illustrations and text into a composition and the software converts these into a video of someone drawing them. You can also add audio tracks. It doesn’t look as polished as say the RSA animate videos, but it gets the job done at a small fraction of the price and allows much more flexibility for edits than filming someone drawing.

I wouldn’t run an animation competition as if the narration has been commissioned, it’s likely that the copyright licence won’t extend to the students. That means that students might not be able to use it in a showreel as an example of their work.

You could work with students to create artwork for the final animation, although make sure you’re upfront about the fees and copyright, particularly if you’re running a competition.

Best wishes,
Claudia

I have a limited budget, and I am not sure how to realise the idea. I was considering organising a student competition among graphic designers, and use the money to pay the winner to make the videos. Have you ever done something similar? Which will be the best way to chose the winner? Do you have any idea of the video cost as well?
