The User Experience Design Program in the Faculty of Liberal Arts at
Wilfrid Laurier University invites applications for a Tenure Track
faculty position at the Assistant Professor level beginning July 1,
2020, subject to budgetary approval.

To be considered, applicants must have completed, or be close to
completing, a doctoral degree (PhD) in computer science, psychology,
information science, systems engineering, or a related discipline
preferably with a focus on interaction design,
mobile/wearable/tangible computing, augmented/virtual/mixed reality.
The PhD must be completed by March 1, 2020.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of research
experience with a focus on some aspect of interaction design using
both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Evidence of
excellence in research can be demonstrated by publications in
top-ranked journals, and conferences, as well as research grant
applications. Along with sample publications, applicants should submit
a Research Dossier including a research statement that clearly
describes the focus of the research, and plan for furthering that
research agenda, over the next five years.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach core courses,
across a range of subjects within User Experience Design. These may
include: UX Research Methods, Interaction Design, Information
Architecture, and Mobile Design. Responsibilities will include
undergraduate teaching, development of course and laboratory
exercises, supporting experiential learning opportunities, curriculum
development, and supervising undergraduate research projects.

Evidence of excellence in experiential teaching and pedagogical
inquiry can be demonstrated through the Teaching Dossier submitted as
part of the application. The Teaching Dossier should include a strong
statement of teaching philosophy and pedagogical approach, sample
syllabi and course materials (lecture slides, lab manuals), and
teaching evaluations or other evidence of teaching excellence.

The successful candidate will also be committed to collaboration or
engagement with the broader community, and contributing to the
administration of the UX degree program.

The User Experience Design program at Wilfrid Laurier University is
multidisciplinary in its focus, and provides an innovative approach to
the design of experiences including services, products, digital
applications and spaces. The undergraduate major is offered at WLU's
innovative Brantford campus that is integrated into the downtown core,
and the minor in UX is offered on both the Waterloo and the Brantford
campuses.
