The University of Aberdeen International Study Centre is looking to appoint an External Examiner in Engineering & Sciences for both our University Foundation (NQF Level 3/4 and SQF level 7/8) and Pre-Masters Programme (NQF level 6 SQF level
8/9) beginning in November 2019. The term of office will be for four years (November 2019 to 2023).
Modules will include Chemistry and Physics, Electronics and Research Methods in Engineering and Geo-Sciences.
Our External Examiner will be expected to undertake the following tasks:
- Provide feedback to programme teams on the design of assessments, examination papers, marking schemes and criterion;
- Attend the final Programme Assessment Board(s), to provide advice and endorse decisions of the board;
- Review a sample of assessed work prior to the Programme Assessment Boards;
- Submit an annual External Examiners report.
Person Specification:
- Knowledge and understanding of the UK (Including Scottish) sector agreed reference points for the maintenance of academic standards and assurance and enhancement of quality;
- Competence and experience in the fields covered by the programme of study, or parts thereof
- Relevant higher-level academic and/or professional qualifications or extensive practitioner experience, where appropriate;
- Competence and experience relating to designing and operating a variety of assessment tasks appropriate to the subject and operating assessment procedures;
- Familiarity with the standard to be expected of student to achieve the award in the programme modules to be assessed;
- Meeting criteria set by professional, statutory or regulatory bodies;
- Awareness of current developments in the design and delivery of relevant curricula;
- Competence and experience relating to the enhancement of the student learning experience.
Candidates should not have links to either the University of Aberdeen or the University of Aberdeen international Study Centre. In addition, candidates should not be working in a faculty, school or department of a Study group partner university.
