CALL FOR PAPERS: Decolonising library collections and practices: from understanding to action: CILIP ILIG Event
When: Monday 25th November 2019 (1 day), 9.30 am – 4.30 pm.
Where: Conference Centre, Cardiff Metropolitan University, Llandaff, Cardiff, CF2 2YB
CILIP International Library and Information Group (ILIG) in conjunction with Cardiff Metropolitan University are delighted to invite speakers to the above event.
We believe that Libraries can be activists, champions and allies for both the Institutions they serve and the wider society in the move away from white privilege. We hope to explore decolonising universities and their libraries, by first gaining an understanding of race then by illustrating practical actions taken by libraries, which others may emulate. Indicative themes include, but not limited to:

• Understanding of race in the UK, both in a Higher Education but also wider context.

• How libraries/universities raise awareness on issues of race i.e. unconscious bias training

• Innovative uses of Open Access resources, Leganto, curated reading lists, etc.

• Alterations to classification schemes or meta data for the purposes of inclusivity

• Applications of UX or induction specifically geared to people of colour

• Library projects involving the active representation, recruitment or engagement of people of colour, whether student or lecturer e.g. Hackathons

• Any issues of Critical Librarianship e.g. transnational education, post-colonialism

• International Librarianship and Race e.g. how UK libraries are perceived internationally, etc.

• Other themes (use the survey below to suggest any other themes)
