Subject: Vacancy: Research Associate in New Forms of Data

The UK Data Service is looking to recruit a full-time grade 6 Research Associate in New Forms of Data (part time job shares will be considered)

We wish to appoint a Research Associate to provide training in new forms of data for social science and cross-disciplinary research as part of the UK Data Service User Support and Training team at the Cathie Marsh Institute, University of Manchester. The majority of your time will be spent on preparing and delivering training but there will be the opportunity for you to conduct your own research using new forms of data as part of your role.

The UK Data Service is expanding its training programme to meet the increasingly diverse needs of those undertaking social science and cross-disciplinary data analysis. There is substantial demand for training in the collection, handling and analysis of new forms of data that can be used for social sciences research, for example data linkage, the use of social media data, transactional data, web data, admin data, biomedical data, streamed data/the internet of things. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and motivated individual with experience of manipulating and analysing new forms of data to use their skills to train others in this emerging and expanding field. The position will also enable you to further develop your own skills in using new forms of data.

You will preferably have a PhD (completed or nearly completed) in the Social Sciences, or Data Science/Data Analytics or the Biomedical Sciences (or equivalent) with a strong quantitative data analysis component. Experience of analysing new forms of data is essential for this role, as well as excellent inter-personal skills and the ability to train social scientists and others in using new forms of data for their research.

The post is available until 31 March 2021 with potential to extend further until 30 Sept 2022 (subject to further funding).

This vacancy will close for applications at midnight on 8 October 2019.
