Kitchener and the Survey of Cyprus

17 October 2019 | The National Archives, Kew

In 1878, lieutenant Kitchener of the Royal Engineers arrived in Cyprus to survey the newly acquired colony. Whilst there, he created a fascinating geospatial and cultural record of the island.

Join us for a symposium led by Maria Iacovou, Professor of Prehistoric and Protohistoric Archaeology at the University of Cyprus to find out more about this topic. The event will be followed by a wine reception and a display of the maps produced by Kitchener on his visit, as well as other related documents held at The National Archives.
