An exciting job in communications and PR for a growing global charity that supports engineering research and skills for safety:

Job Opportunity

Communications & PR Executive for global engineering & research charity

Fixed-term contract 6-9 months, salary around £30k per annum

Lloyd’s Register Foundation is looking for a creative and dynamic communications executive to help transform our website and social media presence, create powerful content, and deliver PR campaigns to raise our profile.  This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team at a pioneering global charity based in London.

Lloyd's Register Foundation is an independent global charity that helps to protect life and property at sea, on land, and in the air.  To do this, we support education, research, public engagement, and promote scientific excellence.  In 2017-18, we awarded £23.9m in grants and had an active grant portfolio of over £120m.

We strategically identify where our help will most benefit society, funding initiatives from occupational training programmes set to save thousands of lives, to enthusing more young people to take up engineering to build a safer future.

We publish regular reports on areas of concern, and annually host one of the world’s most prestigious thought leadership summits on safety and risk.  The successful candidate will be central in promoting and communicating these activities, towards our goal of promoting safety and public understanding of risk.

Our vision is to be a leading supporter of engineering-related research, training and education that makes a real difference in improving the safety of the critical infrastructure on which modern society relies. Our income is generated from the profits from our trading arm, Lloyd’s Register Group Ltd, and our investments. We meet our aims by awarding grants, acting directly, and working closely with the Group which shares our mission.

The role

A key role within the organisation, you will work closely with the communications director and programme team as well as a wide range of colleagues in Lloyd’s Register Group.

The Communications and PR Executive will develop creative content for the Foundation’s website and actively manage our social media channels. You will be responsible for transforming the quality of content across all our channels, increasing the number of followers, and improving the Foundation’s global influence and digital profile.

You will also create content for the media and help run media relations campaigns to raise our profile in national and international media, as well as develop content for promotional collateral such as brochures, leaflets, and presentations.

You will create, build, and actively manage the Foundation’s stakeholder database and contact lists, and our Forward Planning Diary and calendar to help spot good news and content opportunities and maximise PR. You will also help devise and manage PR events such as launches, press conferences, international conferences, stakeholder workshops etc.

This role is also responsible for monitoring and evaluating our communications and PR activities, ensuring our tactics are driven by good quality data, producing regular reports and a monthly dashboard.

Skills & experience

You should be a social media expert with excellent copywriting and creative skills, and experience working in external communications/PR either in-house or in an agency role. You must have experience working across a wide range of PR disciplines including social media, media relations, stakeholder engagement, events, and campaigns. Strong project management and an understanding of the latest trends and best practice in PR is also necessary. A passion for research, technology, and the charity/NGO sector is highly desirable.
