Dear All,
While reviewing our own annual PGR conference, we thought it would be useful to benchmark ourselves against other institutions. If you are interested in current practice please answer the following questions and I will be happy to collate all responses and circulate to participants.
- How long is your conference, and do you have any other sessions in addition to the student presentations (e.g.keynotes, 3MT, workshops)?
- Is there a competitive selection process for presenters, or is the conference a training opportunity for PGR candidates to practice their presenting skills?
- Do you produce publications from the conference such as abstract or proceedings?
- Do you award prizes?
- Are their any social events at your conference?
- To what extent are the PGRs themselves involved in the organisation of the conference?
- What is the proportion of your PGR population that engages with the conference, either as presenters or audience members?
- Do supervisors engage with/attend the conference?
- At what level is the conference pitched? As our conference is interdisciplinarary we use it as a training opportunity for students to think about presenting to a lay audience. Do you also use this approach or is your conference pitched at a technical level?
If anyone is interested I can also send on the full schedule from our recent conference.
Kindest Regards,
Tracy
