Summer Lecture Series: Written treasure, 29 August
18:30-20:30, Events Space

Dear all,

This is a quick reminder about our Summer Lecture Series event, 'Written treasure: correspondence from captured ships, 1652-1815'. Please do pass this on to any colleagues or students who may be interested in attending.

Between 1650 and 1815, thousands of letters sent across the seas were seized from ships captured in war and presented to the High Court of Admiralty. Join Dr Amanda Bevan, Head of Legal Records at The National Archives, as she delves into messages sent from an expanding world of slavery and sugar, European colonisation and trade, peace and war; the precursor to our world.

Book your free place.<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/written-treasure-correspondence-from-captured-ships-1652-1815-tickets-61232545191>

This lecture is part of this year's Summer Lecture Series, on the topic 'State and Society: Cultures of Communication'. The series is exploring modes of communication between citizens and the state, from private letters and public propaganda, across different time periods, cultures and nations. See the dates and titles for our other events<https://narnia/display/NEWS/2019/05/23/Summer+Lecture+series+2019%3A+Cultures+of+Communication>.

Best wishes,
Emma Kay
