Dear Frances

Yes, you are right, the certification scheme closed on 31st July!

https://www.england.nhs.uk/tis/about/

I had no idea this was happening. The logo was definitely still on the
NHS webpages two weeks ago but it has been removed now.

Thank you for bringing this up. We use the Information standard and the
HON logos on our health savvy leaflet so this will now need updating L

Personally I don't think a statement is going to be that useful. Anyone
could write that on their website!

Also a logo is much more visually appealing. Personally I don't think
people would look for a statement as evidence of reliable health
information. To be honest, I think health literacy and critical
thinking should be taught in primary schools because it would appear
most adults will believe anything if a celebrity endorses it. L

Subject: Information Standard logo / statement

Afternoon all,

Can anyone advise?

We have a patient/public information flyer that is about searching for
good quality health information on the intranet, which needs to be
reviewed.

In it we used to refer to the Information Standard logo, as something to
look out for to help identify if a health information website meets the
Information standard.

I have heard mixed things that the Information Standard is no longer
correct, or is being reviewed.

On NHS England's Information Standard webpages I cannot seem to find any
information about the logo, or rather more specifically if it is still
current or not.

Does anyone else refer to the health Information Standard logo? Is it
still a relevant thing to tell people to look out for when trying to
find quality health information?

If you don't refer to the logo - do you mention the Information Standard
at all in any patient/public advice flyers?

The NHS England website suggests a possible statement of commitment that
organisations may wish to use to show their dedication to applying the
principles of the standard mentioned. (See:
https://www.england.nhs.uk/tis/about/the-info-standard/useful-resources/
). I think a statement won't be as easy as the previous logo was/is, for
a member of the public to find on a website.

In advice flyer, would you mention looking for a commitment statement as
a way to identify good quality information?

Thanks in advance,

Frances Griffiths
