Morning HEROs
Anyone know anything about possible domestic built Nuclear fallout shelters?
Someone has reported an outhouse they are having demolished as potentially one, and just wondered if anyone else has ever encountered them.
The outhouse appears to have been built circa 1947, and consists of walls of 4” reinforced concrete, with the roof having two layers of that, inside which a breeze block skin has been built to make a room, with an 8” gap to the concrete
wall, all the way round. Unfortunately, this has only been discovered during demolition, so ‘recording’ is by the developer.
But sounds like it could be a bunker to me – unless anyone has other ideas? It was built onto a nineteenth century semi detached house in High Shincliffe, County Durham.
best wishes
