HIV STI Surveillance & Prevention Scientist, Public Health England, London

Three exciting opportunities have arisen in the STI & HIV Department, within the Blood Safety, Hepatitis, STI and HIV Division of the National Infection Service in Colindale, north London. The STI & HIV Department has national responsibility for HIV and sexually transmitted infection (STI) surveillance for England and the UK. Both posts will be based within the STI surveillance section and supervised by senior scientific staff.

One postwill work on the Gonococcal Resistance to Antimicrobials Surveillance Programme (GRASP) in England and Wales. GRASP is the national surveillance system which monitors the trends and distribution of resistance and decreased susceptibility to antimicrobials used to treat gonorrhoea.

A second postwill provide analytical expertise to develop a robust surveillance system for sexually transmitted enteric infections (e.g. Shigella and Hepatitis A) using routine laboratory reports and clinical data, and enhanced questionnaires reported to PHE. The successful applicant will play a key role in the development and provision of new surveillance outputs, which will be used to inform prevention and control strategies. The work will include data management and quality assessment, developing (coding) and running statistical analyses, and writing and contributing to surveillance reports and peer-reviewed publications.

The third postis the scientist for the CTAD chlamydia surveillance system. This is the national surveillance system which monitors activity for the National Chlamydia Surveillance Programme (NCSP).
