We had CN out and they told us there wasn't anything they could do either to replace the glass or the doors, but considering that our cases are slightly newer than yours (c.1999) I am now a bit confused by this. Are you able to tell me (off list if you prefer) who from CN advised you, and which museum you're at? The glue failed on one of ours last year (installed 1997) and they came and removed all the glass from cases that vintage, reapplied adhesive and put the glass back on. Just a thought. Once they are unlocked it gets a bit easier to see how to take it apart but I think it was still a bit of an exercise in brute force. You could try the option of some angry curators with heavy tools (I did once- very satisfying). Although I think Andrew might be right a decent scrap merchant may be willing to do it if they can get enough cash out of the scrap. If there isn't enough cash in it for a scrap merchant I have also used various other teams like the theatre tecks and the Council uplift guys for weird stuff like this. Some of them love a challenge and it is something different for them, you just need to get them when they are not busy which can be a problem if you are working to a deadline. Given that the things are usually built like tanks that is. In fact a local scrap merchant might help you out and take it away purely for the scrap value. Strange that it's not repairable, you'd have thought that C-N could have just gone back to the original specs and built a replacement door. The cynical might even possibly imagine that they're thinking a new case makes more money than a replacement part. Or any recommendations of companies who can do this for us? We have one case to remove, its sort of built into a space between two walls so access is a bit complicated. The case is going to be thrown away/recycled as the glass on the doors is beyond repair and apparently we can't buy replacement doors, so it doesn't matter if it comes out in pieces! Any thoughts or recommendations would be gratefully received.
