The online, peer-reviewed journal for the publication and discussion of
artistic research.

*http://jar-online.net* <http://jar-online.net>

JAR is open-access, free to read, and to contribute.

The Journal for Artistic Research (JAR) is an international, online, Open
Access and peer-reviewed journal that disseminates artistic research from
all disciplines. JAR invites the ever-increasing number of artistic
researchers to develop what for the sciences and humanities are standard
academic publication procedures. It serves as a meeting point of diverse
practices and methodologies in a field that has become a worldwide movement
with many local activities.

We are very happy to announce our eighteenth issue with the following
contributions:

Usoa Fullaondo, What Can a Process Do? a Passage from Ritual to Rituality
<https://www.researchcatalogue.net/view/352239/352240>

Christine Hansen, 50 Billion Micrograms. In the Search of the Aftermath of
an Event <https://www.researchcatalogue.net/view/427822/427823>

Katrina Brown, Translucent Surface/Quiet Body, Redistributed
<https://www.researchcatalogue.net/view/291635/291636>

Alexander Nevill, Passages of Light: Analogue and Digital Moving Image
Installation <https://www.researchcatalogue.net/view/458012/458013>

Emma Cocker, Nikolaus Gansterer, Mariella Greil-Moebius and Simona
Koch, Choreo-graphic
Figures: Scoring Aesthetic Encounters
<https://www.researchcatalogue.net/view/462390/462391>

Keywords include: affect, animal, choreography, expanded cinema, flatbed
picture plane, haptic visuality, how-ness, media archeology, media arts,
memory, meteorite, moving image, photography, rituality, science fiction,
site, wit(h)nessing.

JAR’s Editorial team is proud to announce that from now on the journal is
also open to submissions in German, Portuguese, and Spanish. In his
editorial for JAR 18, Michael Schwab explains the rationale behind this
decision: *after having developed and stabilized our processes over the
last 17 issues, we strongly believe that it is time to transform JAR in
order to problematize, in addition to the media and formats of expression,
also the language that they employ**. *This is a crucial step for JAR,
which will eventually lead to different versions of the jar-online.net
website. As Schwab writes: *it is important to challenge the hierarchies
that come with [linguistic] limitations insofar as they inscribe particular
preferences, which often claim universal status as either the only possible
or the only necessary order of things*.

Take a look at JAR18 and read the full editorial
<https://jar-online.net/issues/18>.

The Network space <https://jar-online.net/network> of JAR’s website offer
one new reflection on artistic research and, for the first time, two book
reviews. In 'Inventing structure. Speculative notes on artistic and design
research in Switzerland'
Gabriel Flückiger and Siri Peyer discuss the specificities of artistic and
design research in the Swiss context. In her review of Barbara
Lüneburg’s 'TransCoding
– From "Highbrow Art" to Participatory Culture'
Pamela Breda provides a critical analysis of the text, focusing in
particular on the parallel between artistic research and ethnographic
sociology. Finally, in the review of Johanna Schindler’s ‘Subjectivity and
Synchrony in Artistic Research: Ethnographic Insights, Culture and Social
Practice'
Manuel Ángel-Macía reflects on Johanna Schindler’s ethnographic analysis of
artistic research.

JAR <https://jar-online.net/> provides a digital platform where multiple
methods, media and articulations can function together to generate insights
in artistic research endeavours. In its peer-reviewed section, it seeks to
promote ‘expositions’ of practice as research. JAR views artistic research
as an evolving field where research and art are positioned as mutually
influential. Recognising that the field is ever developing and expanding,
JAR remains open to continued re-evaluation of its publishing criteria. If
you are considering submitting something to the journal, be sure to look at
our guidelines <http://www.jar-online.net/submissions/>.

The Network <https://jar-online.net/network> is a non-peer-reviewed space
on the JAR website for discussion, reviews and opinion pieces relevant to
artistic research and JAR’s community. It carries no restrictions in terms
of language, length, topic or theme. You can read all contributions here
<https://jar-online.net/network>.

versões no site do jar-online.
